raises funds for Merjem Nikšić (2019).

Merjem was born on 4 June 2019 in Novi Pazar. She was born naturally, after a normal and maintained pregnancy. However, midwives noticed, at birth, that the amniotic fluid was thick and green, but it was not given much importance to that.

Immediately after the baby was brought to her, the mother was scared because the baby did not cry, she did not want to eat, and since Merjem is the second child in the family, mother had experience and knew something was wrong. On the third day after the birth, she noticed that the baby had convulsions and was behaving unusually. Mother refused to be discharged from hospital with the baby. Merjem was transferred to the Clinical Center in Kragujevac, and she had another convulsion on admission to the hospital.

A detailed diagnosis determined that the umbilical cord was infected with Escherichia coli, a bacterium that caused sepsis, which led to leukomalacia in the brain. Merjem was found to have congenital hematoma, edema and bleeding of I grade. She was prescribed therapy.

Immediately upon discharge from the hospital, she started with physical therapy. Merjem's parents took her to rehabilitation in spas in the country and abroad. She was treated at the Special Hospital for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Neurology in Belgrade, but there was no major progress.

Merjem had stem cell treatment in Novi Sad and it was planned  to do the same treatment in Kiev. She is now a 2-year-old girl who still does not sit and crawl properly, does not walk or speak. The diagnosis of cerebral palsy limits her from enjoying childhood like all healthy children. Despite all the difficulties she deals with every day, Merjem is a happy and smiling girl.

So far, her parents have financed all the costs of treatment and exhausted all the resources, so  they ask  all humane people to help them so that Merejem can continue with the treatment, progress and one day become independent.

She needs funds for treatment, surgical procedures in the country and abroad, stem cell treatments, rehabilitation, physical and hypo therapies, swimming therapies, defectological and speech therapy treatments, medical equipment, medicines, supplements, for travelling and accommodation costs.
