raises funds for Vukan Božić (2021).

Vukan is the second child born after a properly controlled and maintained pregnancy, in term at the 38th gestational week, by planned caesarean section.

On the second day, due to neonatal convulsions, he was transferred from the General Hospital  Pancevo to University Children’s Clinic Tirsova, where he was treated for 5 months. The initial EEG recording is in favour of neonatal epileptic encephalopathy. The anticonvulsant therapy he was receiving had a partial effect. Metabolic and genetic tests started, and after extensive genetic testing, the previously determined heterozygous gene variants in the SCN2A and PNPO genes were confirmed, without detecting new ones, and the result of the targeted testing of the parents indicated that none of them were carriers of this variant. This finding speaks in favour of the possible causal significance of the variant in the SCN2A gene, which is associated with the spectrum of commissural disorders, from benign infantile convulsions to epileptic encephalopathy, so from a genetic point of view, it was concluded that SCN2A dysfunction seems more convincing in terms of potential causation.

Vukan does not have an officially defined syndrome, and his diagnoses are: Specific epileptic syndromes (G40.5 Syndromata epileptica specifica); Mixed specific disorders of development (F83 Disordines evolutionis specifici mixti) and Other diseases of muscle tone of the newborn (P94.8 Morbi toni musculorum neonati alii).

Vukan is being treated and monitored at University Children’s Clinic Tirsova and the Special Hospital for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Neurology, but additional therapies and treatments are necessary for his growth and development. Vukan does not walk, sit or speak and he is not independent, but he has the will and strength to overcome all the obstacles that limit his normal development, so he needs constant stimulation.

Until now, his  family has financed all additional treatment costs, but as the costs of Vukan's treatment increase over time, they need the help from humane people’s donations.

Funds are needed for BDA treatments, rehabilitation, specialist examinations and diagnostics, laboratory analyses, speech therapy and defectology treatments, orthopaedic aids, gene therapy and treatment abroad.
