Description

Humanitarian Foundation BUDI HUMAN - Aleksandar Šapić

raises funds for Roman Šarenac (2016).

Roman was born after a healthy and regular pregnancy. But because of difficulties at birth  which ended with forceps and Roman was long without oxygen. Reanimated and immediately transferred to the Institute of Neonatology, where he spent the first 72 hours in a hypothermia. For the next five months, experts from the Institute were fighting for his life.

Due to hypoxia and brain damage, Roman does not have sucking and swallowing reflex, for that reason, in the fifth month, he got  PEG (Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy)  through which he is fed. At that time he finally went home and from that moment the parents continued struggle for his life. Since he cannot swallow, the parents had to purchase a medical aspirator to save his life. Due to frequent aspiration of the mouth and nose, specific nutrition and reflux, it is necessary to monitor and control him for 24 hours a day.

Roman exercises intensively, every day, with therapists and parents from his sixth month. He is not pediatrically stable to stay at spas or institute due to the high risk of infection. Roman cannot sit, crawl, walk or speak.

Luckily the only person dealing with the problem of children’s dysphagia in Europe lives and works in Novi Sad. There is his  private speech therapeutic clinic. After several months of exercise with speech therapies, orofacial spasms were reduced. Roman began to laugh, his jaw relaxed, he began to put his fingers in his mouth, although he did not put anything in his mouth like all the other children, Roman managed to overcome the saliva and even managed to swallow the water.

He is going to go to the swallowing, chewing and feeding treatments for which the family needs financial help. So far, parents have been able to take him to two weeks' therapy, and Roman has progressively  advanced both mentally and in motor skills, but he has to work more. He is stronger, more mobile, he could turn to his stomach / back, and he likes to sit - with a support.

Roman went a long way from the incubator, where he was "frozen" for the first three days, under hypothermia, to the achievement of much more than the doctors expected from him.

Let’s enable Roman to continue the treatment, which includes feeding, intensive physical rehabilitation, as well as supplies including suction catheters, feeding syringes and special supplements for nutrition.

For  Roman's better future! Let's be humane!
