Humanitarian Foundation BUDI HUMAN - Aleksandar Šapić

raises funds for Milijan Popov (1961).

On  August 3, 2019. Milijan suffered a severe heart attack during a holiday in Greece. He was transported to the regional hospital in Polygyros. He was hospitalized in very bad condition. The staff and doctors were very dedicated, but the medical conditions were not adequate. After several hours of complications with initiating insurance policy, a lot of time was lost. The doctor insisted on urgently  going to Thessaloniki, because the situation was getting worse every minute. His organs began to cancel. Trapped in the clutches of the insurance , only after numerous requests and persuasions, the family managed to provide an ambulance from Thessaloniki. He was transported to Thessaloniki, to the private hospital Agios Lucas, the only available at that time, where two stents were implanted. Conscious and oriented, he left the operating room. They were relieved.

But that was not all. That same evening, he had a severe stroke, as a result of the initiation of a blood clot in the blood vessels in the brain. That evening, he was induced into a coma, in which he remained until August 17.

The fight for Milijan's life began. In the meantime, he had surgery, and a neurosurgeon performed a decompressive craniotomy - the removal of a part of the skull bone, which actually saved his life. The medical staff, led by doctors, did everything possible to save Milijan’s life.

Milijan was transported to Serbia, to the Military Medical Academy, in the night between August 14 and 15, in a coma and with a built-in tracheostomy, and soon he woke up. He remained in the hospital until October 10.

The stroke left consequences in the form of deprivation of the left extremities. But, with long-term and intensive physical therapy, he achieved a good result, so that recovery is visible.

However, another very important procedure remained - the operation to restore the removed skull bone, which is necessary primarily for safety reasons. According to the doctor's recommendations, the procedure should be performed by a doctor who operated on Miljan in Thessaloniki, especially because the part of the bone is kept in the Agios Lucas hospital, in special sterile and controlled conditions, at -80 degrees Celsius.

The costs of the operation include the procedure itself, 3-4 days in the hospital, as well as accompanying procedures, medications, and specialist examinations. It is recommended to be accompanied by an expert, which significantly increases the cost of travel and accommodation. Recovery, care, supplements, vitamins, medical supplies and physical therapy are also needed.

Our little help means a lot to Milijan! Let's be humane!
