raises funds for David Zeljić (2015).

 

David is the second child from a properly controlled pregnancy. He was born prematurely, and two days after the birth he was operated on for meconium ileus and diagnosed with Down Syndrome.

 

David was immediately referred for physiatrist treatments, because of hypotonia. At the end of the first year, he started treatment with a speech therapist and oligo phrenologist.

 

He started crawling at the age of 2.5. David does not walk. He is not independent in taking food and water, completely dependent on others' help for personal hygiene. His salivation is increased . Basal habits are not regulated, he still wears diapers. He does not control the sphincter. General motor skills are below expected for his age.  At least he can take a sitting position on his own.

David requires full attention and care. He is always smiling and in a good mood. He can make eye contact although his speech is not developed. He understands the most basic tasks. The family communicates  with him based on his movements and facial expressions.

 

Repeated speech therapy and special education treatments were started in a private institution.  In order to become independent in walking and basic motor skills David was recommended to have hippotherapy and repeated physical therapy . Funds are necessary for sensory room therapies, and  for travelling costs. Unfortunately David has severe degrees of stagnation in all segments of development.

 

David is now five years old, and on psychological testing, it is estimated that he is at the level of a nine-month-old child. Parents believe that they can make a lot of progress with adequate professional help.
