She had a happy childhood, until 2014 when she accidentally discovered that she was ill. She was then diagnosed with liver and biliary tract disease - Autoimmune hepatitis and Primary sclerosing cholangitis. At some point in her growing up, her immune system began to attack the liver, which was already in a state of cirrhosis that year. However, with adequate therapy, medicines that affected the weakening of her immunity, she managed to bring the disease under control. Her body responded well to the medication, so since 2015, the disease had been in remission, and the dose of the medication had been gradually reduced.

 

Unfortunately, everything went wrong in the middle of 2018, when her illness started to progress again. Ana was already employed at the time and she soon quit her job due to frequent check-ups and hospitalizations. Doctors tried in all possible ways to help her, changing medications, dosing medications and  correcting her diet. Ana got a job again at the end of 2019, but she worked there only for a month before she took first sick leave. Staying in the hospital coincided with the first wave of the Covid 19 virus, one that would have been fatal for her considering taking immunosuppressive medicines. Namely, any type of virus makes a real mess in her body, because of her daily therapy, so she often has to give up everything that young people do - going out, and mingling with a large number of people.

 

In April last year, she was told that a liver transplant was the only solution for her because she developed a tolerance for the medication that had helped her until then. Due to the spread of virus in Serbia, Ana waited a long time for the medical advisory board. She was put on the official waiting list for a liver transplantation in Serbia in December 2020, but doctors recommended that she should seek help abroad. The number of donors in Serbia is very low, and the epidemiological situation does not help at all. There are no conditions for this type of intervention. At the Acibadem clinic in Turkey, it is possible to transplant an organ from a living donor, which is in Ana's family, and currently it is the best solution for her.

 

However, it is also very expensive. Costs of transplantation, specialist examinations before and after it, Ana and the donor's stay in Turkey for a minimum of one month, medicines and supplements, travelling and accommodation costs altogether require our financial help.

 

What will the new liver bring to Ana?

 

With a new liver she will be able to go to work, to have a rich social life, to hang out with friends, to live without taking medicines everyday and without problems and have peaceful sleep.  She can have a better future and a greater opportunity to live a normal lifestyle. She will be able to do the things she loves and make her dreams come true.
